Squier Stratocaster HSS w/ Tremolo product review

When I first started playing guitar, I rented a guitar from HB Woodsongs with a rent-to-own contract, meaning that after renting for a certain period of time, I could keep the guitar. The guitar was a good one, but I found out that I wanted to play more rock and metal, so I chose to buy an electric guitar. After a few weeks of shopping online, I found a guitar that I really liked. It was on Amazon though, and my last experience of buying through Amazon was disastrous. After some more shopping on guitarcenter.com, I found another really good guitar from a good brand. It was the Squier Stratocaster HSS with tremolo. It was only $130 - cheap for guitars. It arrived around 3 days later.

When I opened it it was a great looking instrument with a shiny coating. Without an amp, I had to improvise, so I got an adapter and plugged it into a speaker using an AUX cable. Eventually, I got a Blackstar Fly 3 amp.

The guitar sounds great on any of the pickups. When the guitar was packaged, Squier used shrink wrap before it put the volume knobs on, so when the wrap was removed, some remained under the knobs. This makes for a scraping sound when adjusting the volume or tone. Also, I didn't know that they had used two layers of shrink wrap, so I thought that something was wrong with the pickguard. Eventually, it came off by itself, but it almost made me return it.

The actual finish of the guitar is not as strong as I thought it would be. After a few months of getting it in and out of my case, I noticed that there were some dents in it. There is also a scratch around halfway down the neck.

The humbucker pickup makes the guitar sound like it had distortion on even when it isn't. I am not sure if it is because of the amp or not. While on the topic of the amp, the Blackstar fly three is a great amp. It isn't too loud, but it can go way louder than I need it to. I keep my volume at around 2.5 and my mom still complains. One trick with the amp is it sounds more like metal if you turn delay level all the way up and delay time all the way down. Another good amp it the Sawtooth 10 watt amp. It has different features, goes louder, and it needs to be plugged into the wall, unlike the Fly 3.

I would rate this guitar 4/5 stars. I hope that this article has informed you an helped you make better decisions in your purchases.
