Can we burn the American flag?
The short answer to this question is yes, you can legally burn the flag. Others might get mad at you and hurt you, but you are 100% allowed to burn the American flag. However, there have been amendments proposed to make it illegal to desecrate a flag in any way. The most recent one failed by one vote in 2006. The reason that many people think that it should be a crime to burn or deface the flag in any way is that people view flag burning in protest as a way of dishonoring the U.S. or saying, "America must die." However, many other people view it as symbolizing that America needs to change or that it has strayed from the path envisioned by our founding fathers. In order to get more opinions, I interviewed some kids at Peak to Peak. I got answers ranging from "People who burn flags should be jailed and given a cactus a day until they starve" to "They should be fined" along with answers like "Long live the King" and "No comment".
