Babylon Versus Uruk, Peace or War? Debate of the -26th Century

We may be a bit late to release this article, as the focus of it happened over 4000 years ago, but our main journalists have discovered the secret to time travel and have traveled back in time to view these events, at the cost of 14 school buses full of outdated 17th century Webster English dictionaries and 12 Concorde jets filled with 2019 Cannon Inkjet printers. (This article is barely true, we took a few creative liberties) Babylon Moves Army to City of Uruk, How long will Peace Last? Recently, the city of Babylon sent their army to surround the major cities of Mesopotamia, including Uruk. No violence has broken out yet, but a siege may not be as unlikely as it seemed yesterday. The city of Uruk is prepared to fight for the empire they rightfully stole. King Gilgamesh, who was interviewed about 4 thousand years ago, said, "those Babylonians have been eyeing out portion of the Tigris [river] for years, waiting for a chance to steal our fields and crops. I fear the worst....

A War in His Own Backyard: Michel De Vallavieille

Michel De Vallavieille and The Role of Paratroopers on D-Day Michel de Vallavieille was the first person to be evacuated from Utah beach, but he was not in the Allied army, neither was he in the German army. So who was he, and what happened to him? On the night of June 5th, 1944, American paratroopers landed behind enemy lines with the objective of clearing the way for the troops landing at the beaches the next morning. The planes carrying the paratroopers got lost and dropped them much to low and at the wrong spots. As a result, they landed unorganized and formed small bands that experienced a little bit of scattered firefights, but most of the fighting would come the next day. The next morning, a small group of paratroopers from the 506th PIR had formed into what was supposed to be Easy Company. There were only about fourteen of them. The group was told to attack a group of four 106mm cannons at a small farm called Brecourt Manor. Brecourt Manor was owned by the Vallavieille ...

The Mitsubishi A6M "Zero" The Fighter's Name Says it all

The "Zero"-Zero Myths About it are True There are already multiple articles and videos about how obsolete the main Japanese carrier based fighter of WW2 was, but a good pun was thought of so this article had to be written. The A6M Zero was built with many ambitious goals, only some of which would actually be useful. When the Imperial Japanese navy ordered a fighter with such range maneuverability, firepower, and speed Nakajima decided it was impossible to design it with their low budget and backed out, but Mitsubishi stayed in. Many corners were cut and the fighter was made as light as possible and lacking many crucial components. In the beginning of the war, the Zero was much more maneuverable than the allied planes and had two 30 caliber machine guns --somewhat effective for close range combat-- and two deadly 20mm cannons. The 20mm could tear enormous holes in the American  bombers, as seen in the image below. Against the Navy fighters used early in the war, it would...

Squier Stratocaster HSS w/ Tremolo product review

When I first started playing guitar, I rented a guitar from HB Woodsongs with a rent-to-own contract, meaning that after renting for a certain period of time, I could keep the guitar. The guitar was a good one, but I found out that I wanted to play more rock and metal, so I chose to buy an electric guitar. After a few weeks of shopping online, I found a guitar that I really liked. It was on Amazon though, and my last experience of buying through Amazon was disastrous. After some more shopping on guitarcenter.com, I found another really good guitar from a good brand. It was the Squier Stratocaster HSS with tremolo. It was only $130 - cheap for guitars. It arrived around 3 days later. When I opened it it was a great looking instrument with a shiny coating. Without an amp, I had to improvise, so I got an adapter and plugged it into a speaker using an AUX cable. Eventually, I got a Blackstar Fly 3 amp. The guitar sounds great on any of the p...

President Trump Scheduled to Arm-Wrestle Kim Jong Un at next Nuclear Summit

President Trump is scheduled to arm wrestle Kim Jong Un at their next meeting. "This event will decide the future of the North Korean nuclear weapons program," says one of our sources who decided to stay anonymous. The arm wrestle, scheduled to take place on the second day of the summit, will be a historic event. "This is the fight of the century," says Caleb Frank, one of our journalists here at TTN, with some connections to the white house, "The outcome of this [arm] wrestle will determine the winner of WW4. Most historians know that if parliament was ever having a hard time passing a law, then each side would send one representative to [arm] wrestle the other, but this has never happened at such a large scale." The White House Press Correspondent says "The president is looking forward the 28th [the day of the scheduled event] and he has been cooped up in the Oval Office for hours on end taking advice from the professionals and exercising his musc...

Monster - Walter Dean Myers

'Monster' is a novel by Walter Dean Myers. In it, a black boy named Steve Harmon is put on trial for being an accomplice to murder. He is a film club member, and the book is written like a movie script. While those who know him closely say he is innocent, and would never commit a crime, many witnesses are called in who falsely testify that he was a lookout for the robbery. While he is in jail, he hears inmates being beaten by others and witnesses gruesome fights. Myers uses these facts to explore emotions felt by the inmates, some of which have discussions with Steve about being guilty and getting their sentences. Many of them felt regret for the actions that got them into jail. Steve also includes notes in the book, many of which hint at a sense of despair. The book's format made it hard to read, but I was still able to read it in less than a day. This book was a good book, and it was easy to read a little at a time. I recommend this book to anyone w...

Coming Soon to Your Body: 3D Printed Organs

Every day, 20 people in the US die while waiting for an organ donation. Many of these people might have had a friend or family member try to donate, to find out that they are incompatible. 3D printed organs can solve that problem by printing these people new organs custom built for them. This will also solve another problem, which is that your body may attack an organ which it believes to be a foreign object.  Unfortunately, this technology is not available to everyone yet, so we are stuck with the old waiting line. How it works There are several different methods for 3d printing organs. Each of them has different problems and uses different materials. There are various other types of bioprinting that are not mentioned in this article too. Bioprinting works better than injection molding organs because injection molds can't make complex shapes inside of an organ The first method is inkjet-based bioprinting. This method pushes print material out of a nozzle and...

Influence - Robert B. Cadilini, PhD

In Influence , Robert Cadilini shares valuable insight on the many strategies used by salespeople to get you to buy something. He includes many examples, studies, and letters from readers. He also shares valuable tactics for countering these strategies.  The techniques discussed are very broad but are all based on one idea; people have fixed responses to certain things. Dr. Cadilini explores this in the first chapter by first describing this in animals. He then describes how this could occur in humans. Each chapter, starting with chapter two, has one strategy. I found the letters from readers to be very good examples.   However, I found that this book was harder to read than most of the other books that I have read. This book was harder to read for a few reasons. First, the book contained an excess of examples. I think that Dr. Cadilini could have made the points just as strong while using just half of the examples. Also, I think that the chapters had subtop...

Can we burn the American flag?

The short answer to this question is yes, you can legally burn the flag. Others might get mad at you and hurt you, but you are 100% allowed to burn the American flag. However, there have been amendments proposed to make it illegal to desecrate a flag in any way. The most recent one failed by one vote in 2006. The reason that many people think that it should be a crime to burn or deface the flag in any way is that people view flag burning in protest as a way of dishonoring the U.S. or saying, "America must die." However, many other people view it as symbolizing that America needs to change or that it has strayed from the path envisioned by our founding fathers. In order to get more opinions, I interviewed some kids at Peak to Peak. I got answers ranging from "People who burn flags should be jailed and given a cactus a day until they starve" to "They should be fined" along with answers like "Long live the King" and "No comment". The g...

Studio 42

Studio 42 Studio 42 is an unprofessional branch of TES (totally entertaining studios) like TTN is. Studio 42 is where the writers of TTN will act and create some comedic videos for their classes. After a little bit, I decided that if we had a news site, we might as well post some of the videos we have been making and putting effort into. So, from now on, I will keep you posted on all of our videos and releases. -Caleb

Self-Driving Cars

Self-Driving Cars Self-Driving cars are now on the market and are being used on the streets. Although, there have been multiple cases of crashes from both the computer not being fully functional and abuse by the driver. The software and hardware of these cars is not complete, or ready to be used a lot. Car companies like Tesla and Uber are constantly working on making the cars safer, but they still aren't as good as a human driver. Actually, they are better than some human drivers. Nevertheless, these companies should not stop testing and working on their cars, and should not be discouraged by the fact that there have been accidents that swept all over the internet. People should be more forgiving, knowing that these cars are still being worked tire lessly (ha ha ha?) on and perfected. Also,n that case, most of the accidents we hear about are infact the driver misusing the technology. The accident with the Uber that we all heard about was the driver not being smart at the whee...

The Irrationality of Fear

There are many things that we fear in our everyday lives. These include things like terrorist attacks, plane crashes, and many more. The following statistics will show you just how illogical these fears are. Gun violence - More people die of drunk driving than gun violence. However, people are not pushing for alcohol to be harder to purchase.  Terrorist attacks - The point of terrorism is to terrify people. Terrorists do this by plotting the attack so it seems like this could happen to anyone. In fact, people are more likely to drown in their bathtub than be killed by a terrorist. Airplane crashes - Cars are more dangerous on average than an airplane. These things are feared by most Americans for one reason; news sites. In the twenty-first century, news reaches many people. These news companies' goal is to get more readers. Most people are attracted by violent stories. Therefore, it is only reasonable for them to publish stories about violence and other...

Unbroken -Laura Hillenbrand

Unbroken Unbroken is an amazing book about a pow in Japan. The protagonist, Louie Zamperini, was a famous Olympic runner who joined the united states Air Corps to escape being killed in the war. Louie was not very lucky and ended up with the M4 Sherman of the planes. Louie was the bombardier of a B24 Liberator. The Liberator was a medium bomber made for mass-production. This caused many flaws in the designs and countless american lives were taken for no reason. Louie ended up fighting the ruthless Japan from Hawaii. He suffered a crash over the pacific and very few of them were left. They also had none of the necessary survival tools, as the bag had gone down with the rest of the crew. Louie and his friend, Allen Phillips (Phil), spent 47 days at sea, fighting off the sharks. Their rescue turned out be be a lot worse than being stranded, though. Louie soon faced severe brutality and horror for over two years. The book goes into the truth of what our war with Japan was really like an...

Band of Brothers -Stephen Ambrose

Band of Brothers Band of Brothers by Stephen E. Ambrose is probably my favorite book ever. Band of brothers is about Easy company of the 506 regiment in the 101st airborne division. The 506th regiment joined the hundred and first airborne division just before D-day and lead the outfit to success until the end of the war. Band of brothers will take the reader (WW2 nerd) from rigorous training in Camp Toccoa to the freezing perils of Bastogne, to the fire fights of Normandy. This book goes into detail with the emotional and psychological states of the heroes, as well as interviews with the soldiers. The book brings both the short, exciting aspects of combat and the slow reality of war. I have not become a personal fan of certain soldiers in the company, but become a fan of the whole company. As major Richard (Dick) Winters says, "No I'm not a hero, but I have served in a company full of them"-Band of Brothers. Every young boy was not a hero, but together they were a comp...

Flags of our Fathers -James Bradley

Flags of our Fathers Flags Of Our Fathers by James Bradley is one of my favorite books about the battle of Iwo Jima in the pacific. The book is written about the six marines/ navy corpsman in the famous photo taken by Rosenthal. One of the flag raisers, John Bradley, is the author's father. This adds a certain connection between the author and the battle. Flags Of Our Fathers talks about each of the six brave soldiers and some of their past and military career. John Bradley was a navy corpsman who was transferred to the marines to be a combat medic. The book talks about how each marine enlisted and came to the battle of Iwo Jima. This book also goes deeper than some others into the true nature of the pacific war. This is definitely one of my favorite books and is the first WW2 book I ever read. (Warning: this book is kind of violent and contains some graphic descriptions.) -Caleb Frank

Death Traps -Belton Cooper

Death Traps Death Traps is an amazing book by the American officer, Belton Y. Cooper.  I am not even done with the book, but it gives a great perspective of  the second world war. Belton was a liaison officer in a maintenance battalion of the third armored division. The book goes into detail of Belton and his drivers' adventurers through the most iconic battles of WW2. It follows the perspective of an under armed maintenance battalion from a liaison officer's view. Cooper witnessed much of the war, but not from a fighting stand point. Cooper was a very important officer for the third armored division, running emergency spark plug missions and ordering replacement tanks in deep enemy territory. The author's main job was to coordinate the repair, recovery, and replacement of damaged American tanks. There are not many books that come from this type of view, so it is one of a kind. Please enjoy. -Caleb Frank

How to be a High School Superstar Review

In “How to be a High School Superstar”, Cal Newport discusses ways to get into college and study strategies.  In the introduction, Mr. Newport disproves the myth that grades and a lot of AP classes are more impressive to the admissions officers. However, he states that grades are still very important for getting into college. Only if your grades are in the top 75% that that college accepts will that college be a reasonable goal.  Studying for tests is an important part of getting good grades. In his book, Mr. Newport recommends taking good notes. A good strategy for note taking is writing a question and a conclusion for each point. (eg: question: What caused world war 2? conclusion: World War 2 was caused by Germany invading countries that they lost because of the Treaty of Versailles.) A study strategy that he recommends is actively recalling things. It is also important to do well on homework. In order to keep from pulling an all-nighter and falling asleep in class, y...

How to Make a Great Speech

The following tips are meant to help you overcome stage fright and wow your audience with your speech. Make sure that you are completely memorized a few days before your performance Before entering the stage: Before you enter the stage, take a deep breath. This helps your body relax. If you are still tense in some parts of your body, tense that part even more, then release it. In order to warm up the muscles used for articulation, yawn before going on stage. You can also practice tongue twisters for the same effect. Do a power-pose like Superman or Superwoman. This will increase your confidence. After entering the stage: Don't start talking the moment you get on stage. During the short pause, take the time to look at your audience. Use body movements. If you mess up, just go with the flow and don't let the audience know that you did something wrong. They don't know what the speech is supposed to sound like.

An Intro to CRISPR Cas-9 Gene Editing

An Introduction to CRISPR Imagine the power to create super-athletes or cure sickle cell anemia. Now, with CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing technology, we can do just that. This technology is fast becoming increasingly popular. In fact, some companies are already selling do-it-yourself CRISPR kits. But how does CRISPR work? How can it be used? Why might this technology not be widely accepted? Necessary Knowledge This is the knowledge that you will need to know for this article. It is just a quick skim and only covers the basic things, so don’t use this to learn about cells or anything else covered in this section. Cells Your body is made up of tiny things called cells. Inside cells, there are small things called organelles(pronounced ôrɡəˈnel). Organelles act as organs for a cell. There are many different organelles with different functions. Ribosomes make proteins. There are many ribosomes in a single cell.  The nucleus is in the middle of the cell. It stores DNA. There are als...

Brain tips

As computers become increasingly powerful and important, your brain is more important than ever. Most simple jobs will get taken over by machines in the near future. The following tips will help keep your brain in pristine condition while also keeping you happy. Excercise - Exercising is responsible for releasing many different kinds of hormones, which make you happier and more pleasant to be around. It also grows more brain cells in the hippocampus, which is the part of the brain that stores information. Lastly, exercising causes more blood to be pumped to the brain. Meditation - Meditation has been shown by multiple studies to improve focus, a critical skill in almost all aspects of daily life. In second grade, my teacher told my parents that I needed ADHD medication. Now, after meditation, I can focus well for long periods of time. Studies also show that people who meditate have fewer cells in their amygdala. This is a good thing because the amygdala is responsible for fear ...
